Germany: Catching up with Family & Friends

On July 17, we were finally ready to start our roadtrip. The car was packed and we closed the door to our Copenhagen apartment for the next three months and headed towards Southern Europe.
The first stop on the way was Germany where we caught up with family and friends whom we had not had the chance to see as a family for more than 18 months due to COVID-19. Aiming to fit as many visits into a couple of days as possible, we visited Michael’s family and childhood friends in Sauerland, friends from university times in Oxford who now live in Essen, family in the Frankfurt area and even managed to get-together with friends living in Bangkok but holidaying in Germany with a stopover in Freiburg on the way to Italy.
It was great to see everyone after such a long time and amazing how easily conversations can be picked up as if no time has passed. While just a few days, this first stop on our journey was great in reconnecting with family and friends. Fingers crossed that next visits will not be another 18 months out in the future!
