First Part of the Journey
With COVID-19 restrictions continuing across the world well into 2021, we decided that the first part of our time off and the first leg of our journey would be a road trip through Europe. Driving by car would give us flexibility to change route on short notice – and freedom to spontaneously decide where we wanted to go.
Additionally, Europe in summer is also pretty amazing – in particular Southern Europe so this is where we will be spending the majority of our time! As such, we have planned a three-month trip by car from July to October – we have booked first things in advance while later destinations are so far still on the drawing board.
We are starting off in Germany to visit family and friends who we have not had the chance to see for more than a year due to COVID-19. Next stops are in Northern Italy where we will visit Tuscany, The Italian Riviera and Lago di Como. Following that we will go hiking in the mountains in Austria and then travel through Croatia. From Croatia we will take the ferry to Bari in Italy and then explore Southern Italy and the Islands of Sicily and Sardinia before starting our drive back to Denmark in October.
The kids are excited about Italy and the idea of eating Pizza, Pasta and Ice Cream all day long! And we are excited about the variety of the trip – from beautiful beaches to impressive mountain ranges to cities full of history and not least multiple cultures and languages.
